Jean Yoon, regional editor of Asia for Reuters, sent out the following announcement:

Dear Colleagues,

I am thrilled to announce that Martin Howell will stay in Asia as our next Top News Editor.

Martin, who was previously Top News Editor and Deputy Editor, Americas, is a brilliant news editor with decades of experience in reporting, editing and training. He has worked 16 years for Reuters in the United States. He was previously companies editor and deputy companies editor in the Americas, and was also briefly training editor. He spent six years with Bloomberg as bureau chief for Hong Kong and China, and for Australia and New Zealand, and as head of commodities in London. He is author of the book “Predators and Profits: 100+ Ways for Investors to Protect Their Nest Eggs”. His wife, Xiaoqing Rong, is a Chinese journalist based in New York. His eldest daughter Mary-Louise has a teaching job in Taiwan, and his youngest daughter is at Berkeley and has just spent a semester at Oxford University.

Martin, who is well known for his remarkable work ethic, insatiable hunger for news and desire to produce the best journalism, will bring years of experience and fresh perspective to Asia.

Please join me in wishing him the very best in his new role.
