How the WSJ podcast takes deep reporting to new audiences

The Women In newsletter from The Wall Street Journal interviewed Kate Linebaugh, co-host and executive editor of “The Journal” podcast, about her career.

Here is an excerpt:

WSJ: How did you get the job?

KL: I had worked at the WSJ for a good long time when this opportunity came up. It felt like an exciting way to take the WSJ’s deep reporting and storytelling to new audiences. So I went through a rigorous process that I likened to an obstacle course, going through all the steps of making an episode.

WSJ: What did you want to be when you were a child?

KL: I really wanted to work abroad. I was deeply curious about the world. And because of a book my dad bought me when I was 14, I wanted to go to Indonesia. After working and studying in Indonesia, I realized I wanted to be a journalist. I started out at an English-language paper in Jakarta, and worked through many different places before getting a reporting gig in Hong Kong for the WSJ.
