How the Washington Biz Journal plans to cover Amazon

Washington Business Journal editor Doug Fruehling spoke with ARLNow.com founder Scott Brodbeck on a podcast about how the business journal plans to cover Amazon.

The paper has recently hired a reporter, Jonathan Capriel, to cover Amazon, which announced it was adding a second headquarters in the area.

“He’ll be basically covering the effects of Amazon, and everything that relates to that — housing, demographics, transportation, workforce,” said Fruehling, and what kind of companies Amazon will attract to the other.

The Puget Sound Business Journal, which is also owned by American City Business Journals, will continue to cover its earnings and corporate news, said Fruehling.

“We’re looking at what the impact will be on our region,” said Fruehling. “And there will be no nugget too small for us. Our readers at this point can’t seem to get enough of Amazon.

Brodbeck also asked Fruehling about the performance of the business journals.

“Business journalism is thriving, and especially local business journalism,” said Fruehling. “…We have a huge dedicated audience that wants local business news. It’s a good time to be a business journalist.”
