Houston Biz Journal hires finance and innovation reporter

Chris Mathews

The Houston Business Journal has hired Chris Mathews as its finance and innovation reporter.

Emily Wilkinson of the Business Journal writes, “He will cover banking and finance and all related areas, as well as the fast-paced world of technology and startups.

“He will also cover law firms.

“Mathews received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri, where he is in the process of completing his master’s. He previously worked at the Columbia Missourian, the Missouri Digital News and Religion News Service. Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
