Honolulu paper cuts standalone business section

The Honolulu Advertiser has become the sixth Gannett newspaper to cut its standalone business section since the beginning of the year.

The others have been the Jackson Sun in Tennessee, the Indianapolis Star, the Green Bay Post-Gazette, the Louisville Courier-Journal, and the Tennessean in Nashville.

Editor Mark Platte writes, “Beginning today, the Hawai’i section will include business news and classified ads in an all-local supersection. The business section, which had been printed as a stand-alone tabloid, will appear on Page B5 and the classified ads will begin on page B9.

“Hawai’i news will remain the same, with obituaries on B2 and the ‘My Communities’ news on B3. Lee Cataluna will add a fourth column and will now appear in the Thursday paper as well as her regular days of Sunday, Tuesday and Friday.

“The business section will still include a local Hawai’i report and a full page of national and local stocks and mutual funds, including commodities and interest rates.”
