Hollywood Reporter hires Mays as executive editor of news

The Hollywood Reporter has named Patricia Mays executive editor of news, overseeing the digital news strategy of the publication across the brand, including its recently relaunched website.

She will also be managing the digital staff and working with Nekesa Mumbi Moody, Hollywood Reporter’s editorial director.

Her new role begins Aug. 16.

Moody commented:

“Patricia is a dynamic leader who will be an incredible asset to an already stellar newsroom, one known for breaking news, investigative journalism, revealing features and eye-catching visuals. Patricia’s expertise in digital and proven track record coupled with her ability to produce unique, compelling journalism across multiple mediums, will allow THR to  further distinguish itself as the leader in entertainment and industry news.”

Mays joins from ESPN, where she oversaw the national coverage team of correspondents, field producers and assignment desk editors. She was also a sports editor at The Press-Enterprise and has also worked at The Associated Press for a decade in various key roles.

Mays added:

“Joining the superbly talented, creative newsroom at The Hollywood Reporter is an exciting next chapter in my journalism career, and I am eager to work with this team to continue finding ways to innovate around THR’s exceptional coverage of the entertainment industry and expand the audience.”
