Hillkirk wins Minard editor award

John Hillkirk

John Hillkirk, senior enterprise editor at Kaiser Health News, will receive the 2018 Lawrence Minard Editor Award, an award given as part of the Gerald Loeb Awards.

Hillkirk was formerly a reporter and editor at USA Today for 33 years.

While leading the newspaper’s investigations team, it won two IRE Silver Medals, a Gerald Loeb Award, a duPont-Columbia prize and was a Pulitzer finalist.

Prior to that, Hillkirk was editor-in-chief for three years and executive editor for five years. He also managed the Money section for a decade and covered technology and management as a business reporter.

Hillkirk has co-authored three books: “Xerox: American Samurai,” “Grit, Guts and Genius” and “A Better Idea: Redefining the Way Americans Work.” He graduated from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania.

The Minard Editor Award was named in memory of Lawrence “Laury” Minard, founding editor of Forbes Global and a former final judge for the Loeb Awards.

This award honors excellence in business, financial and economic journalism editing, and recognizes an editor whose work does not often receive public recognition.
