John Herrman, one of the inaugural David Carr Fellows at the New York Times, is joining the business news desk at the paper to cover media.
Herrman will cover the big social platforms and disinformation, a subject he spotted earlier than just about anyone when he was a writer at The Awl. He will continue writing the technology column for the Times Magazine.
Since arriving at the Times, Herrman has written about the changing media landscape, including penning a magazine story about Facebook’s promotion of partisan politics.
Before joining The Times, Herrman as a co-editor of The Awl and covered the Internet and technology at Gizmodo, Popular Mechanics and BuzzFeed.
A native of Cary, North Carolina, Herrman received his Master of Arts degree in English literature and philosophy from The University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
