Helping viewers understand financial news

Bryan Gentry of the Lynchburg News Advance in Virginia profiles Fox Business Network anchor Dagen McDowell, a native of the area.

Gentry writes, “A Brookneal native, McDowell has built a name in financial journalism in New York City. She co-anchors FOX Business Network two hours a day.

“She sees her job as helping average viewers understand financial news.

“‘This is the most interesting history and time for finance. … It’s also incredibly complicated,’ McDowell said. ‘The thing about covering business and finance … is it is incredibly fascinating and it affects everybody’s life.’

“In a phone interview in July, McDowell said she was lucky to grow up in a small, supportive southern town. ‘It gives you a firm foundation forever. Looking back, that’s one of the things I cherish the most,’ she said.”
