Helm, editor of Seattle Business, is leaving next month

Leslie Helm, who has been editor of Seattle Business magazine for the past decade, has resigned and is leaving on Oct. 30.

“I’ve enjoyed covering the dynamic business community in the Seattle area, and I’m proud of what our team has accomplished. This year Seattle Business magazine won the General Excellence Award in the Northwest Excellence in Journalism competition,” wrote Helm on LinkedIn.

Helm has been at the magazine since February 2009.

Before that, he was executive editor of Washington CEO magazine from January 2006 to December 2007.  From 1990 to 1999, he worked for the Los Angeles Times in Tokyo and Seattle.

Helm was also a reporter for BusinessWeek from 1982 to 1989. From 1982 to 1986, he worked in the Tokyo bureau, and from 1986 to 1987 he was a New England correspondent. He was Boston bureau chief from 1987 to 1989.

He is also the author of “Yokohama Yankee: My Family’s five Generations as Outsiders in Japan.”

He holds a master’s degree from the Columbia University graduate school of journalism and a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in Asian studies from Cal-Berkeley.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
