Harloff named AP’s global markets editor

AP business editor Lisa Gibbs sent out the following announcement on Thursday:

BIZ staffers, some exciting staffing news to share with you all:

Paul Harloff will become AP’s global markets editor, starting next week (July 5). In addition to daily news and enterprise about stocks, bonds and commodities, this team covers banking, investing and also produces the Money & Markets and Municipal Bond Index products. Additional new customer initiatives for the team are under discussion, and we envision Paul leading these efforts and other experimentation.

Paul has the right news and operational experience for the job. Since 2010, Paul has led the autos, airlines and energy team in a steady stream of impressive, competitive work that has won several journalism awards for breaking news and enterprise reporting. Before that, he helped build and run APFN, which delivered real-time news for Yahoo Finance, MSN Money and other financial websites. Before joining AP in 2004, Paul managed various teams for Dow Jones and WSJ.com.

Anyone who has worked with Paul knows that he is careful with facts, aggressive on news, a critical thinker and a clear writer. He’s a newsroom leader who is easy to work with, and his wicked sense of humor keeps us laughing along the way.<

We are searching for a new person to lead the autos, airlines and energy team. Until then, Paul has agreed to remain the point person for the team’s news and enterprise.

Please join Brad and me in congratulating Paul.
