The New York Financial Writers’ Association has named former Crain’s New York Business editor Greg David as this year’s winner of the Elliott V. Bell Award.
David spent more than two decades as the editor of Crain’s, covering the city’s business, economic and political issues. He appears frequently on media outlets discussing political and business issues, is the author of “Modern New York: The Life and Economics of a City,” and now serves as the director of the business journalism program at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.
David also continues to write a blog and print column for Crain’s New York Business.
He is also director of the Ravitch Fiscal Reporting Program at the school providing advanced training for state and local reporters around the country.
The Bell Award honors journalists who have made a significant contribution to the field of financial journalism.
To celebrate David’s achievement, the association will host an award reception at the CUNY Journalism School on Wednesday, May 23.
As part of the evening, David will moderate a panel with notable writers and editors on “The Five Changes Coming in Business & Economic Journalism.”
The discussion will explore how business journalism is changing and will feature the following panelists: Adam Auriemma, editor in chief of Money; Ben Casselman, a business and economics reporter with an emphasis on data-driven story telling for The New York Times; Cara Eisenpress, a writer for Crain’s New York Business and the author of cook book “In the Small Kitchen” and the founder of website Big Girls, Small Kitchen; Matt Townsend, a reporter for Bloomberg; and Ashley Rodriguez, a reporter for Quartz.
Previous Bell winners include John Huey of Fortune, Tom Herman of The Wall Street Journal and Diana Henriques of The New York Times.
