Tiffany Wu, the head of the Americas desk at Reuters, sent out the following announcement on Thursday:
I am delighted to announce that Howard Goller will join the Americas Desk in New York as Deputy Editor for News. With his experience as a correspondent, desker and editor, Howard brings to this new job a longstanding commitment to high standards, innovation and teamwork.
Howard joined Reuters in the Middle East where he wrote and edited competitive stories from the Israeli-Palestinian frontline. The work prepared him for a move to London as deputy head, then head, of the World Desk responsible for political and general news in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In London and in his next job, as Washington-based Editor for U.S. Political & General News, Howard and his fellow editors fostered active, collaborative editing through regular feedback and drills on breaking news, and distinctive wrap writing. His team covering the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign won the Reuters Multimedia Storytelling of the Year award.
As Washington Editor for Professional News, Howard is part of the team that four years ago launched news and insight for Thomson Reuters tax, accounting, legal and healthcare professional customers. Among his other responsibilities, Howard oversaw coverage of the U.S. Supreme Court and Department of Justice for Reuters and a team that provides antitrust, banking, energy and environment, and labor news content to Practitioner Insights, the Westlaw news product.
Howard will start the new job on July 1 and will split his time between New York and Washington for a few weeks before moving to New York. A posting for his successor will go up shortly. Please join me in congratulating Howard on his new appointment.
