Giorgi, ex-Bloomberg Businessweek visual journalist, joins Dallas daily

Ariana Giorgi

Jon McClure, data and news application editor at the Dallas Morning News, sent out the following staff announcement:

I’m happy to share that Ariana Giorgi will be joining our newsroom as our third computational journalist. She’ll start early next month.

Ariana comes to us from The Chronicle of Higher Education where she was a database reporter and developer. Before that she worked as a visual journalist at Bloomberg Businessweek.

She earned her bachelor’s in mathematics and physics from Lafayette College in Easton, Penn., before earning a master’s in journalism and computer science through Columbia University’s combined track with the School of Engineering & Applied Sciences.

Ariana’s primary focus will be visual storytelling, so she’ll hope to work closely with all of you across your beats to tease out context that can feed rich dataviz. She’ll also pitch in on our usual graft in newsapps.

She’s making a big move from the East Coast to the strangeness that is Texas. So if you have a second to share a welcome, please do at @ArianaNGiorgi.

With Ariana filling out the last cubicle in our row, by my rough history, four makes this team the largest it has ever been at The News. Speaking for the other three, we’re all looking forward to paying that privilege back to the you all and our readers.

Thanks.
