Dispatch Publisher and president of GateHouse Media Ohio, Bradley M. Harmon announced to employees on Tuesday that he will leave the company at the end of Nov. for a new job.
Harmon was named president and publisher in Oct. 2015. During these four years, he has been active in the central Ohio community, including as a member of the Columbus Partnership of business leaders. He also oversaw the acquisition and management of six more Ohio daily newspapers, including the Akron Beacon Journal.
“In this Ohio group, I have had the honor of leading some of the greatest jewels in GateHouse Media,” Harmon said. “And I am grateful for the passion and support we have found in all of our markets for good journalism. Local journalism matters, and these news organizations are doing great work.”
Harmon’s announcement came on the day that New Media, with its operating subsidiary GateHouse Media, and Gannett Co. are closing on a $1.4 billion merger that will create the largest local newspaper company in the country.
“It was an extremely difficult decision. My family and I have truly enjoyed living in central Ohio,” he said, “and we leave here with many friends and fond memories.”
Harmon, a Cleveland-area native, has been a manager at newspapers from Portland, Oregon, to Rochester, New York, and spent the past 10 years with GateHouse Media.
