FT’s Lynch to join Washington Post to cover economy

David Lynch

Washington Post national economy and business editor David Cho and deputy business editor Zachary Goldfarb sent out the following announcement on Friday morning:

We are pleased to announce that David J. Lynch, one of the best economics writers in Washington, will join us to cover the national and global economy.

David comes to us from the Financial Times. He has spent decades writing authoritative stories about domestic and international economics, filing from over 60 countries. His work is distinguished by its analytical insight and portrayal of the effect of economic trends on ordinary people.

Before the FT, he spent five years as a senior writer for Bloomberg Business Week, where he wrote about China’s role in the global economy, U.S.-China relations, domestic economic policy, and the intersection of politics and economics. Between Bloomberg and the FT, David did a stint as cybersecurity editor at Politico.

David spent 16 years at USA Today, serving as a global business writer in Washington and bureau chief in London and Beijing. He covered political and social developments in China and Europe and was a war reporter in Iraq and Kosovo.

Earlier in his career, David worked for the Orange County Register in California and Defense Week in Washington.

David is the author of When the Luck of the Irish Ran Out: The World’s Most Resilient Country and Its Struggle to Rise Again, an account of modern Ireland’s journey from rags to riches and back again.

He has a master’s degree in international relations from Yale University and a B.A. in government from Wesleyan University. He lives in Northern Virginia with his wife Kathleen. They have three sons.

Please welcome him when he joins us Nov. 6.
