FT names new weekend editor

The Financial Times announced Tuesday the appointment of Caroline Daniel as editor of FT Weekend. She will take up her new role on June 1 in addition to her current role as assistant editor.

Daniel, who joined the FT in 1999, most recently held the post of comment and analysis editor. Prior to this she was comment editor and also White House correspondent, based in Washington D.C. She has also been the FT’s correspondent in Chicago and the IT correspondent during the dot-com bubble.

“I am delighted to appoint Caroline to the role of FT Weekend editor,” said Lionel Barber, editor of the Financial Times, in a statement. “She has done an outstanding job editing and developing the comment and analysis pages in the FT and is ready to lead the future development of FT Weekend.”

Prior to joining the Financial Times, Daniel was a features writer and reporter at the New Statesman, a reporter at the Economist, and a political researcher for Gordon Brown, the then UK Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Daniel was the winner of the highly acclaimed Laurence Stern Fellowship in 1998, involving four months reporting in Washington for the Washington Post. She was also short-listed at the prestigious British Press Awards in 2002 for her reporting on the collapse of Marconi, and as part of the team for the Barons of Bankruptcy” series in 2003.
