Financial Times announced Friday the appointment of Veronica Kan-Dapaah as head of newsroom diversity and executive editor, effective immediately.
Kan-Dapaah has worked as head of video since 2013, overseeing a team of 20 producers, designers and journalists. Under her leadership, the video team has won numerous accolades, including two prizes at the 2020 European Newspaper Design Awards.
In her new role as head of newsroom diversity, Kan-Dapaah will work closely with FT editors to advance diversity in editorial coverage, and with the talent team to promote diverse hiring practices. She will also be tasked with sharing data, insights and best practices within the newsroom.
Reporting to FT editor Roula Khalaf, she will continue to maintain editorial oversight of video.
Khalaf said: “Building a more inclusive newsroom culture forms a crucial part of our commitment to provide world-class journalism and to reflect our global readership more fully. Veronica’s newsroom experience and deep understanding of the FT will be a tremendous asset in reaching and sustaining our diversity goals.”
