FT names executive newspaper editor

Hugh Carnegy, the Paris bureau chief and European managing editor of the Financial Times, has been named executive newspaper editor in London for the paper.

He will oversee print production to run alongside the FT’s 24-hour, multimedia publishing schedule. The paper unveiled a redesign on M0nday.

“Hugh returns from Paris where he has done an outstanding job as bureau chief covering one of the most exciting stories in Europe,” said editor in chief Lionel Barber in a statement. “His appointment supports our rethinking of the newsroom to ensure FT journalism is dynamic in all formats.”

Carnegy was previously the FT’s executive editor and has held numerous positions during his 24-year long career at the FT, including world news editor, financial news editor, international company news editor and deputy managing editor.

Carnegy began his journalism career in 1978 working at Reuters where he stayed for seven years, working in the UK, Ireland, South Africa, Turkey and the Middle East.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
