FT makes/adds digital leadership positions

The Financial Times editor Roula Khalaf changed the digital leadership team, making new placements and changes.

Robert Shrimsley has been named UK editor at large. Shrimsley will work closely with Khalaf to steer the FT’s UK coverage in the post-Brexit era while continuing to write his column as UK chief political commentator.

Janine Gibson. who was previously with BuzzFeed. will now be serving as head of digital platforms and projects.

In her new role, she will oversee the data visualization, video, and investigative teams. She will also oversee visual changes to FT.com and support U.S. managing editor Peter Spiegel with the FT’s growth strategy in America. She will also be working with news editor Matthew Garrahan on long-term projects and investigations.

Lastly, Renée Kaplan will take on the role of head of digital editorial development. Kaplan will continue to oversee the FT’s newsletter and audio strategy while assuming responsibility for new editorial products such as Trade Secrets.

“This is a defining time for the FT as we deepen our digital transformation and sharpen our focus on original stories that bring clarity to the unpredictable new normal,” said Khalaf in a statement.

“I am immensely excited about this fantastic new team of editors who bring a huge amount of skill, vision and experience to their new roles. They will help our global team of talented FT correspondents and editors produce digital and data-driven journalism with insight and impact,” she continued.
