The Financial Times has named international best-selling author Ruchir Sharma as a contributing editor and columnist with a focus on global economics.

Sharma will write a Monday column every two weeks.

“I am delighted that Ruchir is joining the FT as a contributing editor,” said FT editor Roula Khalaf in a statement. “He is a respected commentator on emerging markets, and his sharp and insightful writing on the state of the world will add another valuable perspective for FT readers at a time of disruption and uncertainty in the global economy.”

Sharma is the head of emerging markets and chief global strategist for Morgan Stanley, where he has worked since 1996. He is the author of “Breakout Nations,” a 2012 international bestseller; “The Rise and Fall of Nations,” a 2016 New York Times bestseller; and most recently “Democracy on the Road,” released in 2019.

Sharma was named one of Bloomberg Market’s 50 Most Influential in October 2015. In 2012, he was selected as one of the top global thinkers by Foreign Policy magazine and in June 2013, India’s premier weekly magazine Outlook named him as one of The World’s 25 Smartest Indians. GQ India named him the Global Indian of the Year in 2016 and The World Economic Forum in Davos selected him as one of the world’s “Top Young Leaders” in 2007.
