FT hires Foroohar to write weekly column

Rana Foroohar

The Financial Times has hired Rana Foroohar as its global business columnist and associate editor, based in New York.

She will start on Mach 1, writing a weekly column.

Foroohar is currently an assistant managing editor at Time, where she has been since 2010. She is a global economic analyst for CNN and a regular contributor to NPR and other major media, as well as the author of the book “Makers and Takers: The Rise of Finance and the Fall of American Business,” a finalist for the 2016 Financial Times and McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award.

“The momentous political news events of the last year have reinforced the Financial Times’ position as a trusted source of independent, global journalism, helping us reach new audiences and growing our subscriber base,” said FT editor Lionel Barber in a statement. “Rana will support our mission to deliver the world’s best commentary with her unique insights into globalisation and the modern political economy.”

Prior to Time, Foroohar spent 13 years at Newsweek as an economic and foreign affairs editor, as well as a foreign correspondent covering Europe and the Middle East.

“I’m delighted to be joining the world’s preeminent business news publication, particularly at a time when there are such enormous paradigm shifts occurring in the political economy of so many nations,” Foroohar said in a statement. “I look forward to decoding these changes and their effects on global business for the FT readership.”
