Fox Biz Network web launch provides glimpses of coverage

The Fox Business Network unveiled an introduction to the new network, which has an Oct. 15 launch, on the Internet on Monday and provided a glimpse of its Internet and TV presence.

For example, each of the reporters and anchors will have a blog where it appears they will write about the stories that they cover.

Reporter Jenna Lee writes on her blog, “I don’t dread reporting any aspect of business news, except job cuts. It seems so easy to rattle off those numbers like a play-by-play and forget that the data represents individuals. Layoffs are a big deal, and I know about job cuts firsthand.”

Other posts by the Fox Business team give an idea of what business stories they think will be important.

However, click on “shows,” and the web site simply says “Stay Tuned” for a complete rundown. There are, however, three short videos — called “Money,” “Success” and “Happiness” that give viewers an idea of what stories they’re going to cover. A fourth video emphasizes that what happens on Wall Street affects Main Street, and vice versa.

Another interesting aspect of the preview are the bios of the anchors and reporters. Each one of them has an “little-known” fact about them. For example, anchor Cheryl Casone was once a flight attendant, and Dagen McDowell plays video games. Not sure what that has to do with business journalism, though.

Overall, the look and feel of the site is much cleaner that the CNBC web site, which is often overwhelming when I look at it.
