Fortune’s Wieczner wins ASME Next Award

Jen Wieczner

Fortune magazine reporter Jen Wieczner is one of five winners of the second-annual ASME Next Awards for Journalists Under 30.

The winners will be honored at the Ellie Awards Annual Gala on Feb. 7 and receive certificates of recognition later the same day at the inaugural ASME Next-MPA Next Conference.

The ASME Next Awards are intended to recognize young journalists of extraordinary promise and to support the development of magazine journalism both in print and online.

Wieczner covers finance, health care and big business for Fortune, which she joined in 2013 after covering health care and the Affordable Care Act for MarketWatch and The Wall Street Journal.

Her recent stories have included profiles of hedge fund billionaire Steve Cohen; Jonathan Bush, a member of the presidential family determined to revolutionize the health care industry; and Mylan CEO Heather Bresch and her many controversies, from hostile takeovers to EpiPen price hikes.

She has also written features on various other business topics, from Best Buy’s women-led turnaround; a pioneering female activist hedge fund manager; the IRS’ struggles with cybersecurity; and a disturbing series of suicides on Wall Street.
