Fortune’s Hackett departing for Andreessen Horowitz

Fortune magazine staffer Robert Hackett is leaving the magazine to lead editorial and content for investment company Andreessen Horowitz’s cryptocurrency fund.

Hackett is a senior writer and tech editor at Fortune. He is a co-chair of the Brainstorm Tech and Brainstorm Finance conferences and creator of The Ledger, Fortune’s crypto franchise.

He co-authors Fortune’s daily technology newsletter Data Sheet and weekly fintech newsletter The Ledger, and he frequently hosts video series. He writes on a variety of topics ranging from hacking to quantum computing to crypto.

Hackett has received national recognition for his reporting, including as a finalist for the 2018 Larry Birger Young Business Journalist Award. He has helped manage the Fortune 40 Under 40 list since joining in 2014.

Previously, he worked at Nautilus Magazine, TED Conferences, and Johnson & Johnson. He earned a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Journalism School and a bachelor’s degree with a double major in chemistry and English and a double minor in science and technology studies and history from Cornell University.
