Fortune, WSJ win Deadline Club awards

Stories from Fortune magazine and The Wall Street Journal were winners in the Deadline Club awards business journalism categories.

In the business feature category, the winner was Erika Fry of Fortune for “Epidemic of Fear.”

The finalists were Virginia Eubanks of The Guardian US and The Economic Hardship Reporting Project, for “Zombie Debts Are Hounding Struggling Americans. Will You Be Next?” and Marcus Stern, Pat Maddox, Kait Parker and Charlotte Kesl, of The Weather Channel / Weather.com for “Harvest: Recovery and Risk after Hurricane Michael.”

In the business investigative category, the winner was Katherine Blunt, Russell Gold and Rebecca Smith of The Wall Street Journal for “How PG&E Burned California.”

The finalists were the staff of Bloomberg News for “Alexa’s Listeners” and Nancy Solomon, Jeff Pillets, Michael Mishak, David Lewis and Marilyn Thompson, WNYC and ProPublica for “The Real Bosses of New Jersey.”

The Journal also won the Daniel Pearl Prize for Investigative Reporting for “How Amazon Puts Us at Risk.”
