Fortune magazine is close to announcing that it is hiring six journalists — or about one-third of the staff — of the tech news site GigaOm that closed down recently, reports Chris Thompson of the Poynter Institute.
Thompson writes, “Fortune Magazine will issue an announcement at 8 a.m. tomorrow, according to one of the sources. The new hires will comprise roughly one-third of GigaOm’s total editorial staff. GigaOm, the respected business and technology website, abruptly shut down last month.
“When GigaOm closed its doors last month, some of the most widely-read technology writers in the country found themselves without jobs. The sources would not say which reporters would be joining Fortune’s staff, but many former GigaOm writers have been published in Fortune in the last several weeks, including Derrick Harris, David Meyer, Katie Fehrenbacher, Jeff John Roberts, and Stacey Higginbotham.
“This story will be updated as more details emerge.”
