Former SABEW prez, biz editor taking buyout from Atlanta paper

Susan Wells, who was the president of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers a decade ago, is among those taking the buyout offer from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and leaving the paper.

Wells was SABEW president in 1998, when she was the business editor at the Atlanta paper.

She joins a number of people on the business desk taking the buyout, including business columnist Maria Saporta and tech columnist Bill Husted. Also leaving the paper is Kathy Brister, senior editor for business and news, who ran for the SABEW board this past year.

Brister was responsible for the business reporter clusters and a cluster of reporters on the state desk. She had been a technology editor at the paper.

Wells has had a few jobs at the paper since leaving the business desk, including a stint as a member of the editorial board, and she is currently the Homestyles and Homefinder editor.

Creative Loafing, the alternative newspaper in Atlanta, has the official list of everyone taking the buyout.

Disclosure: I worked for Wells on the business desk from 1994 to 1997.
