Harry Maier, who was the business editor at the Green Bay Press Gazette for 22 years, died Wednesday at the age of 90.

Richard Ryman and Jeff Bollier of the Press Gazette write, “Former Press-Gazette sports editor Tony Walter had a long friendship with Maier.

“‘I first met Harry in 1960 when I was a Boy Scout and the newspaper sent him with us to the National Jamboree in Colorado. It began a friendship of 58 years that included working side-by-side writing about Green Bay. If one word best defines Harry, it is ‘genuine,” Walter said.

“Maier was a 1951 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and worked five years at the Portage Daily Register before joining the Press-Gazette. He was a reporter, city editor, state editor, and for 22 years, the newspaper’s business editor.

“In ‘retirement,’ he also worked for St. Norbert College and The Business News. He was a volunteer with the Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul and was a founder and avid supporter of the Green Bay Curling Club.”
