McGregor McCance, a former business editor at the Roanoke Times and tech reporter at the Richmond Times-Dispatch, is leaving journalism for a job at the University of Virginia.
A story on the Daily Progress web site states that he will be a communication assistant to the associate vice president for public affairs.
The story states, “His time at The Daily Progress has included oversight of all news operations. During McCance’s tenure, the paper launched new digital efforts such as CavalierInsider.com and won national recognition for its ongoing content-sharing partnership with the nonprofit Charlottesville Tomorrow.
“Publisher Lawrence L. McConnell said the newspaper soon will begin a search to fill the editor role.
“McCance’s final day as managing editor is Friday.”
