Forbes makes executive hires

Forbes has made three hires to its management ranks as part of its revamping under new Lewis Dvorkin, its chief product officer.

Andrea Spiegel has joined the editorial group at the company as vice president, new product development.

Spiegel will be product managing the re-architecture and redesign of Forbes.com.  She will also project manage the Forbes 400 and other Wealth lists on Forbes.com. She will be managing the outside consultants redesigning the website and the magazine.

Spiegel will also be engaged in the development of mobile and video projects, as well as iPad and tablet applications.  Along with all these projects, Spiegel will help develop Forbes’ social media strategy and applications.

In addition, Steve McNally has joined the editorial group at Forbes as senior group director of editorial technology development.

In this new position, McNally — who was chief technology officer from True/Slant — will be responsible for designing new ways to connect credible voices with their communities; developing a stable and scalable technology platform; building internal teams to push forward new ideas and technologies; and manage relationships with technology partners and customers.

Also, Coates Bateman has been hired as executive producer for content development.

In this newly created role, Bateman will be responsible for recruiting talent possessing the new skills of digital journalism in a social media universe. Coates will help guide the development and recruiting of an extensive blogging network of knowledgeable and credible content contributors in key vertical niches, as well as help manage the daily flow of content for Forbes’ newsroom, built around the idea of self-publishing, self-marketing, and data analysis.

  • I'm an old country boy that has been a subscriber for almost 50 years and is not sure exactly what these three new folks are going to be doing. But in the event anyone there at Forbes is interested in a great story, I have an idea that I would be glad to explain, either by phone at 573-694-1682 or by email at the above address.
