Forbes hires Council from WSJ, Schulz from LA Times

Forbes has hired Jared Council as senior editor for For(bes) the Culture & DEI.

Council will report and edit stories at the intersection of business and race, focused on building For(bes) the Culture’s editorial depth and reach, while continuing to grow the State of Black Entrepreneurship platform.

Council, reporting to Ali Jackson-Jolley, assistant managing editor, will work closely with the team to ensure that the topics of race and DEI are embedded within all areas of coverage throughout the newsroom.

Prior to joining Forbes, Council spent more than two years at The Wall Street Journal covering enterprise tech and artificial intelligence.

Sam Schulz

In addition, Forbes has hired Sam Schulz as a senior editor. She comes to the team comes from the Los Angeles Times, where she was the newsletter strategy editor, and will take the content lead in growing newsletters at Forbes.

Schulz joined the Los Angeles Times in 2019 from Bloomberg, where she edited features, enterprise and newsletters and launched the company’s premium newsletters for digital subscribers. Previously, she was a senior editor at Politico, focusing on state and local politics and policy, and at NBC.

In addition, Josh Fidler has signed on as deputy director of breaking news video; Brett Knight will be shifting to the role of senior editor, SportsMoney; and Kristin Stoller was promoted to deputy editor on the Consumer team.
