Fast Company hires Herbst as staff editor

Julia Herbst

Fast Company magazine has hired Julia Herbst to be a staff editor for its Work Life section.

She starts next week.

Herbst has been working at Breaker Magazine in New York since November 2017. She previously was an editorial coordinator and associate editor at Los Angeles Magazine.

While there, she contributed monthly to the “Buzz” and “Do” sections, and the feature package. She also wrote, built, and edited stories on LAmag.com and was  responsible for the magazine’s yearly LA Woman package, which highlights 10 outstanding female leaders in Los Angeles.

Herbst is a graduate of Oberlin College, where she was editor in chief of the Oberlin Review.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
