Ex Times-Pic biz reporter joins Advocate

Jaquetta White, a former business reporter for the New Orleans Times-Picayune before it downsized, has been hired by the Baton Rouge Advocate to work in New Orleans.

A story on the Advocate website states, “White, a native of New Orleans, joined the business section of The Times-Picayune in 2003 and covered a variety of beats, including the maritime, tourism and energy industries.

“She also covered the decision by the newspaper’s New York owners to cease daily publication and lay off half the newsroom staff, and the ensuing controversy in which leading civic figures such as Archbishop Gregory Aymond urged the Newhouse family to sell to local owners.

“White was not among those laid off, but she elected to decline the newspaper’s job offer and take a position with The Tennessean in Nashville, where she writes about the music and entertainment industries.

“In 2010, she was a key player in The Times-Picayune’s coverage of the devastating oil leak, which won the 2011 Nieman Foundation Award and the Edward J. Meeman Award for Environmental Reporting.”
