Ex SmartMoney ME named news editor on WSJ news desk

Wall Street Journal real-time editor Steve Wisnefski sent out the following staff promotion on Wednesday:

We are pleased to announce that Tedra Meyer has been named news editor for national coverage on the WSJ’s Real-Time News Desk. With the appointment, the New York-based senior management team of the newly created desk is in place, an important milestone in our push to become a digital-first newsroom.

Tedra joined the Journal as the night editor on the national desk in 2012, after serving as managing editor at sister publication SmartMoney magazine for four years. She began her career as a general-assignment reporter at newspapers in her home state of Washington, and is proud to have only left journalism once — for a short stint editing consumer content at Microsoft in the 1990s. Her first job in New York was on the copy desk of the daily newspaper, the Bond Buyer, where she quickly gained some financial chops. She also has worked as a freelance writer and editor, and as the managing editor of Adweek magazine.

Tedra will play an instrumental role in driving breaking news coverage of political, economic and general news developments in the U.S., working in close coordination with the National News Desk and bureau chiefs around the country. She will also lead a team of journalists on the Real-Time Desk, with an emphasis on providing fast, smart and comprehensive coverage for WSJ.com, DJX and mobile platforms.

Please join us in wishing Tedra success in her important new position.
