Ex-Phoenix Biz Journal editor Lowery hired by real estate publication

Ilana Lowery

Ilana Lowery, the former editor of the Phoenix Business Journal, has been hired as executive editor of Business Real Estate Weekly of Arizona, which covers business and real estate activity in the state.

Lowery, who left the Business Journal earlier this year, will be responsibility for the publication’s product strategy and vision across all platforms, as well as audience growth. Business Real Estate Weekly was founded in 1995 and is a weekly publication.

“This is an amazing opportunity to reinvigorate BREW and help take the publication to a new level, both digitally and in print,” said Lowery in a statement. “It is the perfect position for me and gives me a chance to use all of my skills — both on the editorial and the business side.”

Lowery was editor of the Business Journal for 15 years and managing editor for five years. She started at the Business Journal in 1995 as a reporter and projects editor, covering banking, real estate, economic development, aviation, tourism and sports business.

She previously was an editor for Independent Newspapers Inc., a community newspaper chain based in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Lowery also teaches at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
