Ex-CNBC.com ME joins MassMutual Financial

Allen Wastler, who was managing editor or CNBC.com, has been hired as head of digital content for MassMutual Financial Group.

At MassMutual, Wastler is responsible for building the digital content library for MassMutual’s website and defining the company’s content strategy to engage and educate consumers about financial needs.

Wastler had been ME of CNBC.com for eight years before leaving in July 2015.

Prior to joining CNBC.com, Wastler was managing editor of CNNMoney.com, a joint venture between CNN and Time Inc., where he was responsible for all editorial and content production. Before his tenure as managing editor at CNNMoney.com, Wastler was the managing editor of CNNfn.com where he headed all editorial operations for the site. Wastler was also a regular commentator on CNN’s weekend business shows and appeared frequently on various CNN networks to comment on breaking business news events.

From 1989 to 1997, Wastler held various positions at The Journal of Commerce, a Knight-Ridder newspaper that was sold to the Economist Group during his tenure there. His positions included news editor for trade and transportation as well as West Coast bureau chief where he oversaw coverage of West Coast trade and transportation developments.

Wastler has a master’s degree in business administration from the University of San Francisco and a bachelor’s degree in journalism writing from The Johns Hopkins University.

Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
