Eggerton retiring from Broadcasting & Cable

John Eggerton, the Washington bureau chief of Broadcasting & Cable, is retiring from the publication after more than 40 years in the industry.

He will remain a contributing editor, which means he will still file stories periodically.

Eggerton began at Broadcasting Magazine in January 1981 as a copy boy and worked his way up through job change columns and obits and stock index to become an editor, which he was for more than 25 years before becoming Washington bureau chief in 1999 when the magazine moved production to New York and he decided to stay here.

He was also editor of the TV Fax for 25 years, which was its fax newsletter, and was web editor for a few years. He has also been an editorial writer for Broadcasting & Cable for most of his tenure.

Starting in 2005, he became the Washington reporter as well as bureau chief. He added reporting for Multichannel News in about 2010 and have also written for co-owned pubs TV Technology, TWICE, Radio World, B&C International and Variety when they were co-owned

Eggerton holds a bachelor’s degree from William & Mary in English, and worked at an amusement park, on a farm, and in a slaughterhouse before joining Broadcasting.
