Dan Barnes, a former sports columnist and currently an editorial writer for the Edmonton Journal, has been named business editor of the Canadian paper.
Barnes has covered sports in Alberta for over 25 years, including the past decade as a columnist with The Edmonton Journal.
He has also covered the NHL and CFL beats for The Edmonton Sun and did brief stints as sports editor at three weekly newspapers in St. Albert, Rocky Mountain House and Innisfail.
Barnes covered biathlon and cross-country skiing at the 1988 Winter Olympics and has also reported from Games in Sydney, Salt Lake City, Athens and Turin. He has covered six Stanley Cup Finals, seven Grey Cups, two World Hockey Championships, two Labatt Briers, two World Athletics Championships, two World Junior Hockey Championships and two World Figure Skating Championships.
