John Bodette, the executive editor of the St. Cloud Times, writes Sunday about how coverage of the economy is important no matter the situation.
Bodette wrote, “We will be covering the economy both with the national news reports and our own local reporting.
“We will inform and explain the economic developments and try to provide coping information to help people make decisions. We will pay close attention to the impact on middle-class families and boomers. However, we also will layer our coverage with the impact on other groups, including young adults, retirees and low-income families.
“‘We are looking at the big picture first and also the local stories about how local agencies and organizations are reacting to the economy,’ Times Business Editor Britt Johnsen said.
“‘We also will be providing closer looks at people’s lives and how they are living,’ Johnsen said. ‘How are you living when credit is unavailable, you just lost your job and (adjustable) mortgage rates are rising?’
“We recently added space for business coverage with the daily Jobs & Growth pages and the Your Money page on Sunday. We may add more space in the coming months as the news dictates.”
