Economic Club taps former Crain’s publisher Snyder as CEO

David Snyder

Former editor and publisher of Crain’s Chicago Business David Snyder has been appointed president and chief executive officer of the Economic Club of Chicago.

Snyder succeeds Donna Zarcone, who will be leaving the post after eight years.

His new role beings July 31.

Founded in 1927, Economic Club has been “diversifying its membership, tux-friendly image and speaker lists under Zarcone.” Snyder hopes to increase the pace with a focus on “virtual programming aimed at facilitating more timely topics unharnessed from speakers’ travel schedules.”

His plans include inviting prominent business and political leaders from around the world, including new-economy CEOs as speakers.

Since leaving Crain’s in 2016, Snyder has served as CEO of Chicago CRED.

“He’s a very good communicator. He has strong business skills,” says Cafaro, CEO of Ventas, a health care real estate investment trust. “Obviously, he’s a perfect fit for where the club is going.”

Snyder majored in business at American University in Washington, D.C., while becoming editor of the student newspaper, the Eagle.
