EchoStar to team up with Greenspan on Dow Jones bid

Andy Vuong of the Denver Post writes Tuesday that EchoStar Communications, the country’s No. 2 satellite TV operator, is likely to team up with Internet executive Brad Greenspan to make a bid for Dow Jones & Co., the parent of The Wall Street Journal.

EchoStarVuong wrote, “Such a move would once again pit EchoStar founder and chief executive Charlie Ergen against longtime rival Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch’s News Corp. has offered $5 billion for Dow Jones, owner of The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s and Dow Jones Newswires.

“Douglas County-based EchoStar is part of a team led by My Space co-founder Brad Greenspan that is expected to submit a proposal today, according to The Journal.

“‘The idea of EchoStar bidding for Dow Jones is a real head-scratcher,’ said Craig Moffett, an analyst with Sanford C. Bernstein and Co. ‘But then again, Charlie Ergen has been nothing if not a puzzle.'”
