Duff Wilson to join Reuters investigative team

Duff Wilson, a reporter on the business desk of The New York Times, is leaving the paper to join the investigative team at Reuters.

Wilson confirmed the move to Jim Romenesko, whom he told, “I’m thrilled to be joining the new investigative team at Thomson Reuters. They have huge talents on board and worldwide esteem. It’s an exciting time for new ways of doing and distributing investigative journalism.”

Wilson covers the pharmaceutical and tobacco industries for the Times. He was previously assigned to sports-related investigations, mostly steroids.

Before joining The Times in 2004, Wilson worked as an investigative projects reporter for The Seattle Times since 1989 and, before that, for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and the Associated Press.

Wilson is the first two-time winner of the Harvard University Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting, and has also won two George Polk Awards, for medical and local reporting, and a Loeb Award for business reporting, among more than 30 national and regional journalism awards. He was three times a Pulitzer finalist, for Breaking News Reporting (2003 with Seattle Times staff), Investigative Reporting (2002 with David Heath) and Public Service (1998). Wilson has also been honored with public-service awards from both the Associated Press Managing Editors and The Newspaper Guild.

He is a former member of the board of directors and executive committee of the nonprofit group Investigative Reporters and Editors, a training organization with nearly 4,000 members. Wilson is also webmaster of the collaborative internet launch pad Reporter’s Desktop.
