Max Bernhard has left his job as a reporter covering European autos with Dow Jones, Newswires and The Wall Street Journal with the new year.

Instead, now, he will be reporting from Hong Kong covering the pro-democracy protests as a freelancer. His long-term plans are to be based in Tokyo.

Before joining Dow Jones and The Journal, Bernhard was working as a freelance multimedia journalist and prior to that, he held the post of social media and video editor at New German Mediamakers. He also served as a research assistant at Bridge + Tunnel Productions.

Before that, he worked as a student research assistant and online marketing intern.

Bernhard holds a bachelor’s degree in international business studies from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and a master’s degree in media and journalism from Newcastle University.
