Dow Jones to launch Japanese Web site in 2009

Mark Sweney of The Guardian writes Friday that Dow Jones & Co. plans to launch a Japanese language news site next year.

Sweney reports, “Thomson, speaking at the Reuters Media Summit in New York yesterday, said that the company expects to launch the site in the first half of next year.

“Dow Jones, which is owned by News Corporation, also has a foreign exchange information service in Japan that is the fastest-growing revenue source for the company, he added.

“However, Dow Jones has no plans to make an acquisition in the country, according to Thomson.”
