Dow Jones Newswires hires two to cover investment banking

Dow Jones Newswires announced Tuesday that it hired two new reporters for its investment banking team.

Sameer Bhatia joins as a specialist reporter based in New York covering consumer, retail and media. Lisa Lee, also in New York, joins as a reporter focusing on regulatory changes within the investment banking industry, private equity and hedge fund convergence, and the dynamics of LBO financing.Â

“The appointments of Sameer and Lisa reinforce our commitment to bringing frontline industry experience into the Dow Jones fold,” said Adam Smallman, global managing editor for investment banking coverage at Dow Jones Newswires, in a statement. “The depth and breadth of industry experience these writers possess allows Dow Jones to provide unique perspective, deeper coverage and increased analysis and opinion on the topics critical to our investment banker readership.”

Bhatia, a chartered financial analyst, joins Dow Jones from Bank of America Securities LLC, where he was a vice president in the Consumer and Retail Investment Banking Division. During his tenure at Bank of America, Bhatia served as an adviser for several multibillion-dollar transactions, including Applebee’s $2.1 billion sale to IHOP, Wal-Mart’s $2.75 billion high-grade bond offering and Archer Daniels Midland’s $1.75 billion securities offering. Prior to that, Bhatia was an investment banker at BMO Harris Nesbitt. Bhatia holds an MBA from Columbia University.

Lee has an extensive and diverse background in the financial services industry, having held positions working on trans-border M&A at Far East Investment in Seoul, healthcare investment banking at CIBC World Markets in New York and LBO financing at GE Capital. Prior to that, she worked with Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan for the Senate Finance Committee, advising on international trade issues including China’s Most Favored Nation Status and the effects of currency devaluation on international trade during the Asian Financial Crisis. She has most recently been a financial reporter for Thomson Reuters and The Deal magazine. Lee has a BA from Yale University and an MBA in Finance from Columbia University.

Effective immediately, Bhatia and Lee will report to Arindam Nag, deputy managing editor for investment banking coverage at Dow Jones Newswires.
