Dow Jones Newswires on Wednesday announced the appointment of two writers to a new editorial team dedicated to enhancing reporting and analysis of companies, industries and events.
“In adding Rob and Kevin to our team we are continuing to tap some of the brightest minds in the business world to add fresh perspectives to our investment banking coverage,” said Adam Smallman, global managing editor for Investment Banking Solutions at Dow Jones, in a statement. “Global trends in pharmaceuticals, telecoms, technology and energy indicate that bankers and corporate advisers will be committing significant resources into these sectors.”
Prior to his appointment at Dow Jones, Armstrong was an equities analyst for the hedge fund Seminole Capital Partners from 2004 to 2008. Before that, he worked as a technical writer at Pfizer Inc. He has passed the Level I and Level II CFA exams. Armstrong earned his doctorate in philosophy from Columbia University, where he also taught undergraduates from 1998 to 2003. While working toward his PhD, Armstrong was awarded the President’s and Charles Frankel fellowships as well as the Leiberson Prize.
Before joining Dow Jones, Nichols was vice president at Morgan Stanley, where he was a member of the principal strategies group responsible for trading global proprietary portfolios and conducting analysis of public and private companies. He was also a member of the equities sales and information technology teams during his seven years at the investment bank. Prior to that, he was in the mutual fund accounting division at State Street Corp. and the investment portfolio division at Tower Asset Management in Australia, and worked as a research analyst at Med Tech Capital Group, a venture capital firm. Nichols holds a Master of Business Administration from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Boston University.
Armstrong and Nichols, whose hires are effective immediately, will report to Arindam Nag, deputy managing editor for investment banking solutions at Dow Jones.
