Linda Shockley, the managing director of the Dow Jones News Fund, announced her retirement effective Oct. 1.
In an email, Shockley wrote, “Soon after I joined the Fund in 1988, I was sent to the National Association of Black Journalists’ convention in St. Louis. I write this message while attending the virtual Asian American Journalists Association Fest, on the heels of NABJ, the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. I am blessed to have worked with some of the finest journalists, nonprofit professionals and educators for 44 years.
“I appreciate the Fund’s board, alumni, staff and the journalism community for their passion, creativity and support. I’m grateful for the help we received to maintain remote 2020 summer internships for nearly 80 students in the face of Covid-19.
“The Dow Jones Foundation and our colleagues have been generous to the Fund with their time, talent and access to resources to help us achieve our goals. Every Dow Jones success propels the News Fund forward.
“This personal change comes at a crucial time for the news industry and in our national history. Still, I look forward to enjoying my family, helping my church and pursuing local historic preservation projects.
“I remain committed to promoting inclusion in media careers and the continued success of the News Fund well beyond October. The selection process is underway and the future is bright.”
