Dow Jones FX team names assistant news editor

TALKING BIZ NEWS EXCLUSIVE

Michael Casey, managing editor of Americas for foreign exchange, fixed income and economics, made the following staff announcement on Tuesday:

It is our pleasure to inform you that Geoffrey Rogow, currently a reporter covering foreign exchange, economics and debt markets in Sydney, will be returning to New York on Feb. 21 to join the FX team as an Assistant News Editor. Geoff succeeds David Biderman, who will join WSJ.com late next month.

With Bondi as his home address, one would think that life has been a beach for Geoff– to quote an Aussie expression. But in his two years in Sydney, Geoff found himself in thick of some of the worst disasters to ever hit the region, covering an earthquake in New Zealand and floods and a cyclone in Queensland. The rest of the time he busied himself with a prolific output of contributions to our news flow on markets and economics, feeding both DJ FX Trader, Dow Jones Newswires and The Wall Street Journal at a time when currency markets in particular were taking a growing interest in the ascendant Aussie dollar.

Geoff is no stranger to the New York newsroom, either, or to the big stories that have occupied U.S. markets over the past four years. Before moving to Sydney, he spent two years as a New York-based equities reporter covering the financial turmoil of the crisis and its aftermath. Prior to that, he was an editor on the copy desk, which he joined in June 2004. Geoff is a graduate of Washington & Lee University, where he majored in business journalism.

The current plan is for Geoff to arrive in NY during the third week of February; he will report to Michael Casey.
