Dow Jones DME gets additional job

Wall Street Journal managing editor Robert Thomson –– who is also the editor in chief of Dow Jones & Co. — sent out the following announcement to the staff on Friday afternoon:

“I’m delighted to announce that Mike Reid, Deputy Managing Editor of Dow Jones News Service (also known as the ‘Ticker’), will become Editor, Global News Coverage, on the ‘Hub’ in New York. He replaces the inimitable Andrew Dowell, who recently became a Wall Street Journal corporate bureau chief.

“As the Hub continues to bring together the combined journalistic might of the Dow Jones Newswires, WSJ and MarketWatch, and become much more than the sum of those parts, Mike will play a key role in ensuring a smooth and fast flow of news among these platforms. He will report to the also inimitable Gabriella Stern, Newswires’ senior editor for global news coverage.

“Mike, a native of New Zealand and graduate of the University of Auckland, worked for a couple of New Zealand newspapers and the Swindon (U.K.) Evening Advertiser before joining Dow Jones Newswires in 1997 in London. He was a news editor for European equities, moving to the U.S. in 2004 as the News Service’s deputy managing editor for features and enterprise. We wish him all the very best and hail all who work on the Hub.”
